Super Eagles of Nigeria striker Michael Eneramo has confessed to Nigeria’s most widely read newpaper , that he is not a happy man that Tunisia will not be going to the World Cup in South Africa next year.
Eneramo scored one of the goals in the qualifiers that eventually knocked out the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia from the World Cup race, as they finished second behind Nigeria in African qualifying Group 2.
But the striker, who is based in Tunisia with ‘’Esperance de Tunis’’, insists that the North Africans also deserved to be in South Africa.
He said the fact that the Super Eagles had to fly over the Carthage Eagles to South Africa was galling.
”It was a little difficult to handle. I tell myself it‘s the world of football and that I can only be happy about Nigeria‘s qualification but I love Tunisia and they were in our group too,” ...
” I am sad for my Esperance team-mates, Ousemma [Darragi] and Youssef [Msakni] who both deserved to go to South Africa with me.”
Tunisia will have an opportunity to win something next year as they qualified for the Nations Cup in Angola billed for January.
Eneramo believes the team will assuage some of the World Cup heartache with a good showing in the Nations Cup.
He said, ”However, they have enough pride to bounce back during the African Cup of Nations especially with the return of my coach, Faouzi Benzarti, at the head of the Carthage Eagles.”
Nigeria edged out Tunisia from the World Cup after the Super Eagles defeated Kenya in Nairobi on the last day of the qualifiers, while the Carthage Eagles lost to Mozambique in Maputo on the same day.
