The Tunisian Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE) agency has changed the date to hold the national presidential election to November 17, local media reported on Friday, citing the agency's director.
According to Nabil Buffon, as cited by the Tunisian Tunis Afrique Presse news outlet, the election will take place on November 17 for Tunisian citizens living in Tunisia. Those Tunisian nationals living abroad can vote on November 15, 16 and 17.
The dates have been moved from November 10 for Tunisians living within the country and November 9, 10 and 11 for Tunisians living abroad due to the fact that the previous date fell on the birthday of prophet Muhammad, which is an official holiday in Tunisia.
The Tunisian parliamentary elections are scheduled for October 6. This year's elections will be the third round of national voting since Tunisia's 2011 revolution toppled long-time leader, Zine El Abidine Ben Ali. No leader has declared their candidacy for presidency yet.
