The program began with a five-day orientation at World Learning’s SIT Graduate Institute in Brattleboro, Vermont. The group was then split for home-stays in Louisville, Kentucky, and San Diego, California. The programs in both Louisville and San Diego focused on media literacy and the roles of social and new medias in creating a generation of leaders who believe in the importance of social solidarity, social justice, conflict resolution and/or transformation and peace. The program also allowed these young leaders to be positively empowered by engaging them in different community services in order to strengthen their determination to become good citizens and to make better lives for themselves, their community and the world.
The two groups reconvened in Washington, D.C. to finish the last part of the program which was based on a series of synthesis workshops that focused on project planning, evaluation, goal setting and dialogue groups.
The LET (Libya, Egypt and Tunisia) group had a meeting with officials in the State Department who encouraged the young alumni to develop their own leadership projects that will serve and reach out to other youth in their communities.

The group had the honor and privilege to meet Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at the State Department. Before taking a photograph with the group, Secretary Clinton congratulated the students and their mentors for being selected to take part in the Youth Leadership Program and highlighted the United States' commitment to support and strengthen the relationship between the United States and the Arab spring countries.
