Airline Jet2.com launches a route from Newcastle International Airport to Tunisia

Airline Jet2.com has announced a route from Newcastle International Airport to Monastir (Tunisia),.

Jet2.com boss Philip Meeson said: “We are committed to offering people in the North an unrivalled choice of routes to fantastic sunshine holiday destinations at friendly departure times.

“We are the only low fares airline to offer direct scheduled services to Tunisia, meaning that this service will benefit people from Newcastle and surrounding areas. Tunisia is a fantastic addition to our services from the North East. With beautiful beaches, a rich history and year-round sunshine, I am confident that it will be an extremely popular summer holiday destination for us next year. What is more, being out of the Euro-zone, holidaymakers will be able to get even more value for money whilst they are away.”
Jet2.com will offer both individual flights and holiday packages to Tunisia, located on the northern most tip of Africa. The country offers a variety of attractions, ranging from desert trips, camel trekking, Turkish baths and a host of archaeological wonders.
“Further to Jet2.com’s recent announcement to create significant new employment in the region and serve five new destinations; Tunisia is a great addition to the route list and provides our customers with even more choice for summer holidays in 2010.”
Anissa Ramoundi, Tunisian National Tourist Office, said: “This is fantastic news for Tunisia. It will provide a real boost to tourism in the country.
“At a time when some airlines are cancelling services, it is great to see Jet2.com investing in new brand destinations and we look forward to welcoming new visitors to the country.”

Jet2.com announced its new services last week, which will lead to an extra Boeing 757 aircraft being housed at Newcastle and an 100,000 more seats a year sold.

Absolutely not laabed absolutely not. the british germans, americans, swedish, finnish have the highest spending rate. we should focus more and more on these nationalities and promote tunisia as a diverse holiday destination instead of wasting taxpayers' money on low spending tourists like the former soviet colonies, the french, italian... actually the biggest problem of our tourism is that we target the wrong market then ask why morocco, egypt,
turkey are taking the lead on us. since we know where the problem is what are we waiting for to fix it

British nationals are amongst the highest spending tourists (their pound is roughly twice the tunisian dinar) so this new airlink will certainly help recover their number of visitors which is falling back year after year for unknown reasons.
i doubt though that jet2 will ever fly to monastir since the new enfidha airport will be more attractive. wait and see
